The next series of 3 classes in Urban Sketching are 1-4 p.m. Sundays, July 9, 16 and 23. The classes will meet at Trackside Studios in the River Arts District, 375 Depot St. in Asheville. Topics covered will be:
Class 1- materials and equipment choices, pencil scribbles
Class 2- application of ink and watercolor.
Class 3- More watercolor and a plein air outing (If the weather does not co-operate, we will choose a site with protection under a porch or an indoor atrium.)

Equipment and materials you will need are:
Two Mechanical Drawing Pencils with .07 or .05 lead
Soft Artist’s Eraser (kneaded eraser)
Two Permanent Ink Pens – Sharpie extra fine point or set of Micron 0.1/.03/.05 artist pens
Watercolor Travel Palette
Watercolors: 2 each (light and dark) of red, blue and yellow
Watercolor brushes: one small and one medium size (sable is best and well worth the cost- brush quality is very important in being able to pick up water and color, and consequently the marks you make.
Watercolor Paper Blocks – 8 x 10 in or 9 x 12 in. The cardboard backing of the block will provide a stable surface in your lap if you don’t find a convenient table or low wall when painting out of doors
